FLEXIBLE SIZE ADS:TAKE NOTE OF THIS-IT COULD INCREASE YOUR EARNING DRAMATICALLY:
*One change that AdBrite as done is the introduction of standard size banners and skyscrapers, plus giving us the ability to blend our ads,or make them stand out like a sore thumb,we have,as we should, that choice now.An unwanted(by me at least)side effect of this has been that the new code makes the ads refuse to be opened outside of the window, just as Yahoo ads require.I will leave it to you to deduce why I do not like this, except that I am of the opinion that you will get less clicks on those,as some get frustrated and will just pass by,looking for the info they require elsewhere.
Lets face it people,we are at heart a lazy bunch. In testing on different sites,I have had an amazing 85% increase in clicks with the old code vs the new,a very convincing argument.Plus, the graphic ads do not pay me as much as many of the text ads,so there is no reason to use them.If it makes you feel cool to be in vogue and have the pretty banners, that is your right. If you wish to earn money, that is a different story.
When these changes were first introduced,I just edited their code to allow them to open in a new window.I now see that even my edited code no longer functions that way,but insists that they take over the window.Right clicking or holding down "shift"does no longer work.Yahoo started this,in what I have learnt is an attempt to cut down on fraudulent clicks.I am under the opinion they are cutting their own throats, that things backfired on them, but that is just my humble opinion.Where did the idea of a funnel page come from?ummmm...I wonder....
So except for the 428x60 example above, which I felt obligated to place, all of my AdBrite code is the flexible size style,as the other ads show.NO,I am not soliciting clicks!Do not click them unless they are of interest to you.Heck,if I was going to ask for clicks,it would be for the BidVertiser ad,it pays about 4 times what the AdBrite ad pays.
I am however recommending that you all use the flexible size codes, for many reasons, one of which is that I have noticed that there seems to be very few graphical ads-yet some sites have been getting a 728x90 graphical banner-always for the same thing, instead of the 4-7 ads that they could get using flexible size coding. Some even use the same code twice on one page-giving us two identical ads to choice from.Stupid is the politest word I can think of for those people.Sorry, that is just the truth.
Less choices also means less paying clicks, plus I have discovered that on average the graphical banners pay about 33% less then the text ads.So my question to you is-why would you use them?Less ads, more difficulty clicking them, and a smaller return. Is that worth the pretty banners?Sure there is one on this page, and it proves my point,it gets way less clicks, and the few it has ever got paid at least 50% less.
Which brings me to another point that I feel will help some of you you earn more.I see time after time people who are showing 7 ads-but they use up three 90px spaces to do it.This is because they have not set their preferences correctly.
Under the Ad Specs you will find an area like
Text ad specs
Maximum number of text ads to allow at one time: ____
Text ad layout
Vertical layout Horizontal layout ( ads per row) _____
You merely need to put the number you want in both spaces. To many will ask for 7 or even 12 ads,yet they leave the ads per row at the number 3 that comes pre set.It is editable people!
I suggest that 7 ads per row is the max you should use,and only one row,for horizontal ads.Not only will you have a neater looking site, more of you sites actual text will be visible upon page load.
If you are using vertical ads,you may use as many as your space allows,I have 18 on some sites!Yes,I get 18 different ads,as long as my CTR remains in the acceptable range.More choices means more clicks.
I once heard Adbrite described as the working mans ad agency. An unnamed exchange owner has called them the most forgiving of all and highly recommends them for that reason. While I will never promote fraudulent clicking, there are many that do,and from what I have observed and been told,AdBrite seems to have a relaxed attitude towards possible violations of their TOS.Perhaps this is the owner's way of giving back,he is after all,"one of us"having started out with nothing but an idea.
That does not mean that they are stupid,it just means that they have taken into account the amount of worthless clicks they attract, and that is reflected in the price they pay publishers, and the double tier payments charged advertisers,or at least that is my theory for the double tier payment made on many of the ads.Not sure what I mean?Well,it as been determined that some ads will pay say .06 cents, but if the visitor stays long enough to click another link inside the ad,it will pay the publisher a much higher rate. This to me can only mean that they also charge the advertisers differently depending on visitors action. However,if this is really true it must be something they do not advertise nor offer to the average ad buyer,of which I have been one many times.I could make an enquiry, but hesitate to as I would not wish to draw attention to anyone.
In a reverse of what others seem to be doing,I have noticed a rise in the amount paid per click from AdBrite in the last few months, with my average climbing from around 06 cents to almost 15 cents.I do not know if that is because I have been getting more "double"link clickers,as I am striving to attract more "real visitors",such as yourself,as apposed to casual surfers who may "click on the fly",or a rise in rates-anyone with further info?I would love to hear from you.
All in all though, despite these little complaints I feel, and find, that AdBrite is a very useful and valuable addition to my ad sources, and I do recommend that everyone use them as one of the choices you offer your reader.
Remember-it pays in many ways to always offer your visitors a choice of two at the least,ad sources. It may bug you to see that you earn 12 cents from one source and a dollar from another, but I promise at the end of the year you will have made more then if you just had the dollar choice.
So,even though I only give them a rating of XXX,I still recommend that you
PLEASE-don't waste yours or my time with offers and or promotions of any kind,I will simply block you unread-NO SPAM!
Thanks folks-please remember to send me any info you have that you feel would benefit other publishers,I will be sure to spread the word.

May 15TH 2007:
Today AdBrite released it brand new Statistics page, with the features that I have been screaming for.I am not taking the credit, though I would like to think my constant badgering may have played some small role in their decision to enter the 21 st century.
We now have the ability to look back at our stats, know which ads were clicked, what they paid, the Approval
status,Ad Type ,Start Date, Cost or
max bid, Impressions, Clicks, CTR, eCPM,and Earnings.Yes,that's right,we finally see what each ad paid us,and we have the ability to reject any ad we find objectionable for whatever reason.Maybe you don't like the message,it's competitor, whateve you now get to decide.I am not referring to regular ads people purchase on your site,we always had control there,I am speaking of the vast majority of displayed ads,the network approved ads.
This was a long awaited and much needed improvement, and I take my hat of to the AdBrite management team. So,if you haven't already,Join AdBrite!
March 23rd 2007:
If you have attempted to create a new ad zone with AdBrite lately you may have been disappointed with the number and selection of ads given. Also,if you have let your CTR to be to high you may also have stopped receiving ads or have only been able to attract a few
The reason for this may be the first sign of things to come with Adbrite,as the whole industry attempts to combat the flourishing click fraud industry. The following letter was recently received by a AdBrite client who asked why he was getting so few ads on a new zone.Be advised this person also has other zones carrying up to 18 ads:
Dear AdBrite Publisher:
Our advertising community has requested that network
ads no longer display on low-performing zones. Because our
clients with network ads cannot choose which sites their ads
get sent to, we have agreed to refine our network to only
include premium sites, i.e. sites with clicks that generally
lead to sales, etc.
Since your site has been classified as a low performing
site, your ability to show network ads has been temporarily
suspended. Please note that performance is based not only on
traffic and click-through rates, but also conversion rates
and several other factors. While the suspension is in
place, we would suggest that you focus on attracting direct
advertisers and building your site's traffic
We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience. If you
have any further questions please e-mail us at
support@adbrite.com or by phone at 1-877-232-5200.
Best Regards,

The ads over on the other sidebar are a perfect example of what is meant.
I request 10 ads,but for the first 2-3 weeks of being here all I was receiving was 1-3.It slowly increased as the zone "proved"it's self.So folks,if you change from banner to flexible text, please do not be discouraged if at first the results are poor-they will soon turn around and more then make up for the initial disappointments.
